There was a time when I avoided going to bed because I dreaded facing the next day. I awakened, feeling guilty about a repeated late night of numbing my anxiety and emptiness with another glass of wine. I dragged myself out of bed for a cup of coffee and a shower, promising myself that today would be different. Walking twenty paces to my home office, I flipped open my laptop and sat motionless as I anticipated another day of uninspired sameness.
After disclosing my misery to my best friend, she gently mentioned her two favorite moments of the day – climbing into her cozy bed at night to rest her body and awaking to the promise of a new day.
At first, I only listened with envy as I could never imagine my life to be so content. But then, after some months of stillness and healing, I began to dream of experiencing just that and imagined the possibility of something different…
The Promise of a New Day
morning awakes
a glowing western sky, a joyful fiery glow
a songbird’s solo song, waiting for a responding sweet tune
a tender kiss from a lover, reaching out in search of you
the promise of a new day
angels’ messages whispered in the silence of the sunrise
a gentle reminder to smile, a gift to another
a nudge to simply dream, believing in the possibility
a reminder to trust, knowing of magical moments to come
the day disappears in a blink
night falls
a radiant eastern sky, an instant of delight
a handheld stroll through the park, noting Mother Nature’s wonder
a soft whiskery kiss, signaling the time to dream
morning awakes
the promise of a new day begins again
With loving wishes,
Amy
